Synopsis

His dad stands him up. He acts out. Now Jamil is on punishment in his room. He’s also finally reached the fifth grade and has a history project due. Jamil’s dad tells him about his great grandfather, rodeo star Billie P. The film blends elements of documentary and narrative style filmmaking to explore the legacy of the Black Cowboy and the myth of the American west through the lens of a young boy.

About

This film was developed and produced during the Covid-19 pandemic which posed some unique challenges for the crew. The entire film was shot in studio in a built set. I lead the construction crew in the completion of this build prior to shooting and tear down after wrapping principle photography. Room Rodeo has not officially premiered yet but is already the recipient of numerous grants including Red Bull Arts Chicago and the City of Chicago Independent Artist Program.
